Jessica Chastain: I got star struck meeting Streep

31 January 2012Jessica Chastain has revealed her "embarrassing" encounter with Meryl Streep.

The Help starlet is becoming a big name herself helped by her Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress.

But she told Vanity Fair magazine that she still gets star struck when she meets other Hollywood stars.

"I do it all the time, every time I meet a famous person," she told the publication "I'm such a geek."

The 30-year-old told the story of meeting one of her icons while she was starring in a New York play and completely lost her cool.

"I was in the lobby with some friends of mine, and I look over, and I said, 'Is that Meryl Streep?'" she recalled.

"And as I said it, she turned around and started walking toward me... everything got kind of foggy.

"She went, 'Jessica,' and she grabbed my hands and she was saying beautiful things about the play and my performance."

But Jessica could not find many words for The Iron Lady star and had an "embarrassing" response.

"Because I was so shocked by it, all I did was I held her hands and went, 'Thank you, thank you. It means so much to me that you came,'" she mumbled. "And I walked away."

Jessica apparently also became tearful when she met Gary Oldman at the Palm Springs International Film Festival earlier this month. © Cover Media
