Michael Douglas joins cancer telethon

03 September 2010Michael Douglas will participate in a US cancer telethon next week.

Michael announced he has stage four throat cancer last month. He is currently in his first week of an eight-week treatment cycle and doctors are confident he will make a full recovery.

A representative for the 65-year-old actor has confirmed to Access Hollywood that Michael will join the Stand Up 2 Cancer telethon on September 10. He will film his appearance from New York because he is unable to travel due to his intensive chemotherapy and radiation sessions.

Michael recently revealed his cancer battle has left him exhausted. "It's a fight," he explained. "It really knocks you out."

Other stars already confirmed to appear in the telethon include George Clooney, Gwyneth Paltrow, Will Smith, Denzel Washington, Renée Zellweger and Lance Armstrong.

The event will feature performances from Stevie Wonder, Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong, Queen Latifah and Lady Antebellum.

Stand Up 2 Cancer raised more than $100 million for cancer research when it was held in 2008.

This year's telethon will be broadcast on CBS, FOX, NBC, ABC and other cable channels. © Cover Media
