
Beyoncé Knowles: Etta James' death is huge loss
20 January 2012Beyoncé Knowles is sad to see Etta James pass.The 73-year-old soul songstress died in Riverside, California today after battling Hepatitis C, leukemia and dementia.
Beyoncé, who had the opportunity to meet Etta before her death, honours the singer's memory.
"This is a huge loss. Etta James was one of the greatest vocalists of our time," Beyoncé posted on her website Friday. "I am so fortunate to have met such a queen. Her musical contributions will last a lifetime."
Beyoncé, who portrayed Etta in the 2008 film Cadillac Records, feels privileged to have learned so much about the dynamic musician.
"Playing Etta James taught me so much about myself, and singing her music inspired me to be a stronger artist," Beyoncé shared. "When she effortlessly opened her mouth, you could hear her pain and triumph. Her deeply emotional way of delivering a song told her story with no filter."
Beyoncé respects the singer's tenacity and courage.
