Heidi Klum's father 'sad' about split

23 January 2012Heidi Klum's father is "very sad" following his daughter's separation from husband Seal.

The pair announced their split today after almost seven years of marriage.

Rumours emerged over the weekend that the German supermodel was set to file divorce papers imminently.

Heidi's father Gunther Klum is devastated to see the couple go their separate ways.

"We are very sad," he told American publication Us.

He also added that he "needed to touch base" with Heidi following the shocking news.

Heidi and Seal issued a statement confirming their separation this morning.

The pair thanked fans for their continued support and asked for privacy during this sad time.

"While we have enjoyed seven very loving, loyal and happy years of marriage, after much soul-searching we have decided to separate," the model explained.

"We have had the deepest respect for one another throughout our relationship and continue to love each other very much, but we have grown apart. This is an amicable process and protecting the well-being of our children remains our top priority, especially during this time of transition.

"We thank our family, friends, and fans for their kind words of support. And for our children's sake, we appreciate you respecting our privacy."
