Jason Derulo: Neck injury was eye-opening

26 January 2012Jason Derulo found fracturing his neck an "eye-opening" experience.

The singer sustained the injury while rehearsing for his Future History tour, which was subsequently put on hold.

The star narrowly missed being paralysed and has to wear a neck brace. The whole experience has made him reassess what is important to him.

"I'm taking it one day at a time," he told People. "It's been really eye opening. It's given me a chance to look at everything and realise how blessed I truly am."

Jason and Jordin Sparks are rumoured to have been dating for some time, and he has now confirmed they are an item. Having her support has been invaluable as Jason recovers.

"We are together," he said. "

She lives in Phoenix and she comes [to Miami] and takes care of me, brings me breakfast in bed and she'll go on walks with me. We've gotten closer because of my accident. It's awesome to have someone you can talk to and she's a wonderful person."

The accident was the first time 21-year-old Jason has ever broken a bone.

He's become quite accustomed to wearing his protective neck gear and has used the time off to his advantage. Jason has taken up the piano and started working on new tunes.

"[It] hurt like hell," he admitted.

"I'm going to make another album while I'm down. We'll see what comes out of that. I don't know what it's called yet, but it's really inspired." © Cover Media
